Re: Fuentes Georgina Overnight?

Hi, I stayed in a bungalow during the rainy season of 2012. It was a wonderful experience. I believe all the rooms have a fireplace and some rooms (maybe all) also have their own hot springs tub in a separate room of the cottage. We went on a weekend and it wasn't too crowded. I'd recommend giving t...

Re: Getting geared up for Xela...

Hello, I have a few homes and teachers to recommend. As you may have seen before, finding the right arrangement in which to learn Spanish largely depends on your teacher. When it comes to actual schools, I think that Juan Sisay has to be considered one of the best. I think any school that went throu...

Re: Can I bring powdered spices in luggage into Guatemala?

I realize the original post is over 2 weeks old. But for the record I was able to bring a 1 lb bag of diatomaceous earth in my checked baggage. At least in the food grade form it is a white powder. So plenty of friends made fun of me for trying to bring it from Chicago but I had no problem. I guess ...

Re: Buyer beware / Apartment rental

Hey Felipe, Long time no see. Yeah I forgot to include in my post that I was on the third floor. But the terraza floods like crazy and they repeatedly told tenants that they'd be putting up extra tile and just never do. Now that the rain is over, they'll rent it out again. If they have a tenant in t...

Re: Buyer beware / Apartment rental

Hey Dave, You can get a nice enough place for 1000Q. I did share a two-bedroom apartment with 2 friends. They're a couple but it worked out well because I worked a lot and wasn't there except for weekends. In any case, the landlords are super cool and honest, very patient with our Spanish, etc. In f...

Buyer beware / Apartment rental

This is for anyone that happens to come across an apartment in Zone 2 behind the Mega Paca. There is a building that is directly behind the store which has as many as 10 units. I lived in one of them which had tile in the entrance that needed fixing. The landlord, named Aracely, told me and the prev...

Re: Flight to Guate

Hey, I flew one-way into Guate from Chicago in Sept 2011 and Sept 2012. In 2011 I didn't have a problem at all. In 2012 we had a little bit of a discussion. But both times what I did is explained that I've lived in Costa Rica and Guatemala in the past and that the former does require proof of a retu...

Re: Recommendation: Private Spanish Teacher

I also recommend Rocky! He was my instructor during my first visit back in 2006 and now he is my private instructor whenever I think I need a "brush up". He is knowledgeable, prepared, punctual, etc. He has become a great friend! :D

Re: Xela <-> Altamirano, MX

Hi, I was just in Comitán which is just about halfway between the border town of Cuauhtémoc, Chiapas and San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas. There were lots of buses and microbuses in Comitán going in all sorts of directions. And by the looks of the map, I bet Xela to Altamirano can easily be done ...

Oh, and you can even send a check for free to anyone in the U.S. by logging in online. Pretty cool. I know there's other stuff too.
