Re: Expat Bars, Super Bowl ?

Unfortunately I will not be around this weekend to enjoy the game in Xela. However, Champions sports bar on 5ta calle, back side of Pasaje Enrique will have the game on. Also I am pretty sure Portal de la Quinta will have the game too. Thery are right beside Champions. There is another sports bar be...

Re: U.S. T-Mobile cell phone use in Xela?

I do not have any first hand experience with T-mobile but from what I have seen this usually does not work at least for free. There are 3 cell phone companies in Guate. http://tigo.com.gt http://claro.com.gt http://movistar.com.gt It could be true that one of these has a relationship with T-mobile h...

Re: WANTED: a house to RENT in Xela - will PAY finders fee

Jazzman, I am sorry but it is virtually impossible to rent an apartment in Xela unless you are here in person. Those of us who live here know this which is why you are not getting any replies from the long term resident crowd who use this board. You are wasting your time trying to do this before you...

Re: WANTED: a house to RENT with a nice garden

A nice yard is certainly possible to find. I should have considered the meaning of garden, of course it does not have to be a veggie garden just a nice yard to relax in!!

The rest of my post is still true and on point!!

Re: WANTED: a house to RENT with a nice garden

Jazzman, You can find a place like you describe if you are willing to look around. You would be best to focus your search outside of Zona 1 into Zona 3, 6, 7, 9 and 10. These are the zona outside of the centro historico (downtown). There are loads of house in condominio (developments) with small yar...

Re: Rent and utility cost

You can rent an unfurnished house for Q1000 to Q4000 with 2 or 6 bedrooms in most zonas of Xela that could serve as an office. If you are looking for office space in an office building those prices are probably close. Retail space in high traffic areas will be more of course. http://entremundos.org ...

Re: Tailored suits

Tailor Shops = Sastrerias I've never had a suit made here. I do remember years ago thinking about doing it but never did. There are tailors on 4ta Calle Zona 1 between central park and El Calvario. I have used a few of them for alterations and fixing ripped clothing. I think most of them could make ...

Re: Yellow Fever Vaccine in Xela?

Check with the local Farmacias. Adeph on 4ta Calle @15 "A" Avenida beside the payphones is a well stocked Farmacia they might have it or know where to get it. Farmacia Batres on 12 Ave near the PUMA gas station also might be able to help. The Red Cross hospital on 9 Calle a couple blocks past Centra...

Sorry for my delayed reply. Casa Wilson is not available, it is rented for 1 year. I do not have any leads for you at this time other than the local newspaper which has had multiple listings for apartments over the last few weeks. Many of them will be unfurnished but some times you see furnished pla...

Re: Exercise gyms in Xela

Yes, there are a 1/2 dozen gyms in Xela. The easiest one to find is on 15 ave/4ta calle zona 1 on the 2nd floor. It has free weights, stationary bikes and weight machines, I think they also do some classes too. The nicest gym in Xela is Scandinavia which is out past the La Pradera Mall on Ave Las Am...

Re: Just How Economically...

The simple answer is YES it is possible for a couple to live on $700 a month in Xela. There are millions of Guatemalans living on less than 1/2 of that so clearly it is possible. Your big expenses will be lodging and food. If you can keep the lodging price down you will have more for food and other ...
