Re: bus travel from talisman to san pedro la laguna

larger bus From Malacatan, I believe there are only chicken buses on the route to San Marcos. Marquensita runs some second class Pullman buses between San Marcos and the capital. (But they have chicken buses also. I don't know which one they are running on Saturday.) So you could go to Cuatro Camin...

Re: Where can i get a good map of Xela

Xelapages puts out a map of zone 1 and 3 that is funded by advertisements around the map border. This map is distributed at various spanish schools, cafés and hospedajes around town as well as at the Xelapages internet café. I suppose if you cut off the map border, you could get the map laminated to...

Re: Buying cell phone in Xela

I heard that opportunities to buy them are plentiful. I think cell phone stores are the third most common type of store after tortilla stores and shoe stores. Maybe even more than shoe stores. I don't think the cell phone sellers will have any trouble finding you. There are more cell phone sellers ...

Re: atm fees???

another thing to bear in mind that there is a Q2000 ... max limit per transaction on every ATM I have dealt with. BAC allows Q2500. ATMs at Cemaco and Pradera Xela. I suppose there is also one at the branch office across the street from Pais Mont Blanc. They usually don't give receipts. The one rec...

Re: Visa renewal

any border agent or tour operator who says you have to pay an exit fee for being in Mexico for less than 7 days to get an exit stamp is lying. The fee for the tourist card (about US$21) is still due if you exit to a different country than you entered from, even if you were only in México for one da...

Re: coffee maker for coffee addict

The Maxi Despensa in zone 7 has many coffeemakers, but I think all of them are electric. At least El Cuartito cafe serves espresso. Probably La Guarida , Mandarina and El Criollo do also. I wish I had brought my Melitta pour over drip cone. Even though they don't sell #2 paper filters here, folding ...

Re: SHIPPING TO XELA/USING AMAZON?

I have my own account with Aerocasillas . (I needed to provide them with my address in Guatemala, my NIT , and my credit card number.) Because I live near the cemetery and the brewery, I have Xela Pages listed as my pickup point. But my experience has been that they send my packages to the office at...

Re: Where to look for apartments in Xela

This amusing blog written by a fugitive living in La Antigua a few years ago had a few things to say about rentals. https://web.archive.org/web/20111006141624/http://guateliving.com/category/real-estate/ The advertised rental price, the photos, the number of rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms etc, are almos...
