Buying cell phone in Xela

Post by Shan » Tue Dec 29, 2015 1:25 pm

I've heard that it's best to buy a cell phone in Guatemala, and I heard that opportunities to buy them are plentiful. Is that true in Xela? Is there a place to buy a cell phone near Central Park?

I think cell phone stores are the third most common type of store after tortilla stores and shoe stores. Maybe even more than shoe stores. I don't think the cell phone sellers will have any trouble finding you. There are more cell phone sellers concentrated around La Democracia market, 15 Avenida and Parque Benito Juarez in zona 3, and the Minerva bus terminal and Walmart, but you will find them by wandering around any shopping area including the Central Business District.

Hi there!

Thanks for the tip. About how much would a basic, non-smart phone cost?

About Q125. Including some airtime.

Cell phones need to be registered now. Nationals and residents use the DPI number of their national ID. I don't know what non-resident foreigners are supposed to do. But the vendor should know. If not, probably you can just register it in the name of a friend who has a DPI.
